What is Cabra Cabaret?

Artist Statement

Cabra Cabaret is digital art that harnesses the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to comment on prevalent political, cultural, and social issues of the day. Content ranges from political satire to op-ed perspectives, and from the absurd to the serious.

Through narrative vignettes, Cabra Cabaret exposes the audience to matters of concern that deserve more attention, and often employs humor to call attention to the absurdity of our present circumstances, hopefully provoking mirth during these trying times. Cabra Cabaret does not assume any moral high ground or a monopoly on fact or opinion. Although it may appear otherwise, Cabra Cabaret is not aligned with any political party or ideology, as everything and everyone is a potential subject for commentary.

AI is the chosen medium because of its unparalleled capabilities to transform ideas and thoughts into powerful, realistic imagery. The aim of the content is not to dupe viewers, but to give them a believable window through which to view the world from a different perspective.

Cabra Cabaret is transparent about its AI use in multiple ways: in account bios; all individual content is assigned an AI label; the website linked in those bios also states that AI is being used; and finally, the name of the project and the black goat avatar give additional signals to viewers that the content is not depicting real events. Cabra Cabaret leaves the glitches inherent in AI depictions intact, further cluing the audience in to the fact that these videos are narrative depictions.
